On June 26, 2026, Ying Liang successfully defended her doctoral dissertation and obtained the doctoral degree. 

In her dissertation entitled „Essays on the Effects of the German Minimum Wage: Firms, Workers, and Wage Inequality“, she has been examining the economic consequences of Germany’s statutory minimum wage, with a particular focus on firms’ financial responses, labor market adjustments, and wage inequality.  One paper of her thesis has already been published in the  Journal of Public Economics.

In 2019, Ying joined the Graduate School of Economics, Finance, and Management (GSEFM) of the universities of Frankfurt, Mainz and Darmstadt. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (Dalian, China) in 2014 and already spent one year of her bachelor as a German speaking exchange student at the JGU. She obtained her Master’s degree in International Economics and Public Policy (MIEPP) at the JGU in 2016. Since 2019,  she has been a research assistant at our chair. Following the completion of her Ph.D., Ying will join our chair as a postdoctoral researcher. We warmly congratulate her on her very successful Ph.D. and wish her every success in her future research. We are delighted that she will remain a member of our chair.
